Species Information

  • Dalmatian toadflax
  • Linaria dalmatica (L.) P. Mill.
  • USDA Symbol: LIDA
  • Oregon Noxious Weed Designation: B
  • Pictures

Identification: Perennial; blooms summer to fall. Grows 2-3 ft tall. Leaves waxy, green, heart-shaped and 1-3 in long. Yellow flowers 1 in long and similar to snapdragons. Spreads both by seeds and creeping lateral roots.

Impacts: This deep rooted perennial out-competes desirable forage plants for moisture and nutrients. It thrives in arid rangelands, pastures, forests and right-of-ways. Summertime control may be less successful than late fall applications.

Biological Controls: Five biocontrol agents are approved for release. Two of these, a flower feeding beetle and a stem weevil, are established in Oregon.
