Dyer's woad (Isatis tinctoria L.)

Identification: Perennial or biennial; flowers May to June. Grows to 3 ft tall. Stems simple below and multi-branched above. Small yellow flowers with 4 petals. Bears flattened, winged seed pods.

Impacts: Dyer's woad forms dense stands in rangelands which crowds out native vegetation. Flowering and the most vigorous growth will occur mainly in sandy and gravelly soils, and in marginal farm lands.

Biological Controls: No approved biological control agents are available.
