Perennial grass; grows 6-23 ft. Long bright green leaves arise from tufted base or tussock. Plumes violet when immature, turning pinkish to cream colored when mature. Easily confused with pamaps grass, which has a taller tussock so the plumes are not exerted as high above the leaves as with jubata grass and generally has a lighter purple or all cream tinge to the plumes.
Impacts:
Mature plants are very competitive. Large infestations threaten central and southern Oregon coastal ecosystems as well as hamper young tree regeneration on logged coastal forest land.
